Camphill Village Trust is a UK charity. CVT’s Delrow based community comprises of 1 of CVT’s 9 communities in England. Camphill communities are residential life-sharing centres for people of all levels of ability, including adults with learning disabilities, mental health problems and other special needs. Our communities subsist in sustainable agriculture and the production of a variety of handcrafts, meanwhile providing support for work, learning, and daily living. CVT is part of the international Camphill Movement that has given rise to centres in twenty-three countries in Europe, North America, Africa, and Asia since its foundation in the 1930s.

CVT’S Delrow community provides an incredible volunteer experience, as it is situated in Watford, which is 15 miles north west of central London. Delrow serve as a live-in community for more than sixty people with special needs, including day opportunities in farms & gardens, willow and forest craft workshop, pottery, bakery, textiles and craft, music and drama and art and advocacy group for those that live in Delrow and the wider learning disabilities community.

CVT’s Delrow community, has a successful history of hosting international volunteers. In Camphill culture, volunteering is understood to be a rewarding way to make a positive impact on the lives of others, as well as being a wonderful opportunity to develop new skills and abilities. On a deeper level, the principle central to volunteering – that labour is offered free of a monetary evaluation of its worth—is understood to be inherently ennobling and an ideal of the human relationship to work.

Volunteers main activities:

Assisting with gardening
Maintaining gardens and grounds of the community
Providing support in bakery, pottery, arts and crafts workshops
Participating in social and culture events, to help designing, rehearsing and performing

We sent 2 volunteers from Germany to this ESC project.
